The Women of the West contributed greatly to the success of the western movement in the United States. Until recent times they were not recognized for their magnificent courage and contributions in this western migration. They were the mothers, the lovers and the backbone of western society. Sure many could cowgirl with the men. They were also the wives, cooks, home keepers and reformers of the wild west. They helped build and raise their families in log cabins and sod houses.

Women brought about political progress. They demanded voting rights and Wyoming became the first state to allow women the right to vote.
