The states West of the Mississippi River became the natural country for the big ranches in America. Land was cheap and available and large landholdings became the gold of the new land called Ranches.

Some of the most famous ranches were the King Ranch on the Gulf Coast of Texas, The 6666's and the Pitchfork in Guthrie, TX. Some of the famous brands were The Running W brand of the King Ranch, the XIT in Texas and the 101 in Oklahoma. All made their mark along with many others in the heritige of the great ranch outfits.

You can be assured a major part of the development of the West was the big outfits and their owners. This important history will be clearly depicted in the Main Menu of the American West Culture Club site for Ranches.
